The watch strap tends to get dirty very easily, but it gets really simple if you use the right method and some small trick
THE WATCH STRAP
The strap of the watch is exposed daily to dust and dirt. The greater or less exposure depends on the work that takes place, but basically it is an object that gets dirty. It will therefore be appropriate to carefully clean it. Metal straps can be cleaned easily with soap and water. Or, in case of superficial dirt, simply with a polishing cloth.
DEEP CLEANING WITH WATER AND SOAP
If the dirt is stuck between the chain links, the strap must be removed for deeper cleaning. In a small bowl, dilute a few drops of dish soap in warm water. We dip the metal bracelet in the water. We use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently wipe off stubborn dirt. If the strap is made of gold, the brush could scratch the soft metal. It will therefore be better not to use it. We can try to move the dirt between the meshes with your fingertips. Finally, wipe the cuff with a soft, lint-free cloth.
CLOCK PROFESSIONAL CLEANING
Jewelers can carry out a professional deep cleaning of watches with ultrasonic cleaner. These devices use high-frequency sound waves that are not audible to humans. These waves stir the cleaning liquid and shake the hard to reach dirt. For a thorough cleaning inside and outside, it is recommended to take it to the manufacturer or a watchmaker.
HOW TO CLEAN THE LEATHER STRAPS
We remove the leather strap from the watch and gently rub it with a cloth for the skin. On the cloth we will have first applied a specific detergent for leather. Always make a patch test in a small area before using it everywhere.
To preserve the integrity of the leather strap, however, we limit the cleaning with the detergent once or twice a year. Instead, get used to clean it regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Or rubbing over a damp cloth for a deeper cleaning.
