Trump Jr. says he talked to Hope Hicks about meeting

"As I understand it, this particular conversation for which they were claiming privilege took place after the emails became public, and, was therefore focused more on the reaction to the publication of the emails", Schiff told reporters.

On June 9, 2016, Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower, accompanied by President Donald Trump's former campaign chair Paul Manafort, and White House Chief Strategist, and son-in-law to President Trump, Jared Kushner. This contradicts everything the Trump administration has said about the meeting, and creates a world of legal problems for Don Jr., as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

In September, Trump Jr. told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he, Goldstone and Agalarov "never discussed the meeting again". Though that statement claimed the meeting was "primarily" about "a program about the adoption of Russian children", additional reporting prompted Trump release emails indicating he was eager to meet with the lawyer because he wanted the compromising Clinton information.

Donald Trump Jr. spent almost eight hours Wednesday being grilled by the House Intelligence Committee as part of its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Goldstone has said he puffed up the language of the original email invitation, the contents of which were dictated to him by Agalarov-whose father is close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Days after Trump's first statement on the story, Trump Jr. published an email chain showing he set up the meeting with Rob Goldstone, the publicist of Russian oligarch Emin Agalarov, after being offered help from the Russian government in the form of "official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia".

Trump Jr. frustrated panel Democrats by refusing to answer questions related to the controversial meeting, amid a probe that is investigating whether Trump campaign aides colluded with the Kremlin. He also said he had not told Trump that he exchanged private messages with the WikiLeaks Twitter account, the sources said.

"We will be following up with his counsel", Schiff concluded.

Congressional investigators have uncovered emails that indicate parties involved in the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower had subsequent communication after their summit, CNN reported Thursday. If none of the parties are attorneys then there is obviously no privilege. Mike ConawayKenneth (Mike) Michael ConawayHouse panel interviews Podesta after Trump dossier revelation Texas lawmaker says GOP colleague should resign over lewd photo AG Sessions to face House panel in closed-door hearing MORE (R-Texas), maintained that Trump Jr. had answered "all" his questions. Additionally, a conversation that includes a party and his attorney along with a third party that the attorney does not represent would generally not be considered privileged. And that's now a matter of interest to special counsel Robert Mueller and Congress.
