Pruitt's hiring at Tennessee ends a lengthy, and rather embarrassing, coaching search.

At Alabama, Pruitt had an annual salary of $1.3 million in 2017. The Crimson Tide are back in the College Football Playoff this year too.

Prior to his time in Tuscaloosa, Pruitt served as the defensive coordinator at Georgia (2014-15) and Florida State (2013).

The 43-year-old Pruitt has twice been a finalist for the Broyles Award, given annually to Division I-FBS' top assistant coach, and has spent many years under Nick Saban at Alabama. While many are projecting him to land at Alabama, Pruitt was his lead recruiter with the Tide.

One of the primary attributes that attracted Tennessee to Jeremy Pruitt was his ability to recruit.

Chris Low reported that a press conference is slated for Thursday evening to introduce Pruitt as the next coach of the Vols. He then joined Alabama's staff as a defensive analyst for a season before taking over the outside linebackers.

At long last, the mother of all coaching searches is over. But Schiano, who was once the head coach at Rutgers and with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, received a fierce backlash from Tennessee fans, which forced the Volunteers to back out of the deal.

Currie met last week with Washington State's Mike Leach and was forced out the next day.

Newly named athletics director Phillip Fulmer made the offer to Pruitt early Wednesday after the two sides met multiple times, according to NewsChannel 5 sources.

Pruitt was also a recent finalist for the Mississippi State head coaching position, but the Bulldogs hired Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead on November 28.
