"Donald John Trump, by causing such harm to the society of the United States is unfit to be president and warrants impeachment, trial and removal from office", Green said as he introduced the articles of impeachment, according to report from CNN.

Green has discussed impeaching Trump since the spring and previously filed impeachment articles in October, almost forcing a vote at that time before House Democratic leaders persuaded him to temporarily abandon the effort.

Green argued that Trump should be impeached for his rhetoric against certain racial and ethnic groups, including Latinos, Muslims and blacks.

For these reasons, I've stated for months that I believe President Trump should be, and eventually will be, impeached.

All in all, it was a politically inept decision on Green's part.

Green and his allies were criticized for the effort, with the White House labeling them as "extremists".

Representative Dan Kildee said Democratic lawmakers can not allow themselves to be drawn into a process "that's not thoughtful or complete or might not even be the conclusion we ought to draw".

"I love my country", Representative Al Green of Texas said in a memo to colleagues Tuesday, before adding he meant to bring articles of impeachment against a president who was "unmindful of the high duties of his high office and the dignity and properties thereof".
