Special Counsel Robert Mueller has spent more than $3.2 million in the opening months of his federal criminal investigation into Russian interference in last year's USA election and whether President Donald Trump or anyone close to him colluded in it.

The denial comes hours after Reuters first reported that Deutsche Bank received a subpoena for records related to Trump's credit and money transactions, citing "a person close to the matter". United States investigators are demanding that it provide information on dealings linked to the Trumps, sources familiar with the matter told Handelsblatt.

A short time ago, Fox News White House Correspondent John Roberts tweeted that a source with knowledge of the investigation into Trump's finances had told him that Mueller's office never sent a subpoena to Deutsche Bank asking for the president's financial records. He had reached a tentative agreement with the government.

Deutsche Bank has loaned the Trump organization an estimated $300 million for its real estate dealings prior to Donald Trump becoming president.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's "Russiagate" probe cost U.S. taxpayers $3.2 million in the first six months, mostly on salaries and benefits.

USA investigators are said to be demanding information on dealings linked to Mr Trump as part of an investigation into alleged Russian influence in the United States presidential election, according to Handelsblatt and Reuters.

The expenses are from the date of Mueller's appointment, May 17, through September 30, the end of the federal government's fiscal year.

The bulk of the spending- $1.7 million - has been on personnel salary and benefits, according to the report. Travel outlays added up to $223,645, most of which was spent to temporarily relocate DOJ employees detailed to the SCO.

The Mueller probe also spent $157,339 for a variety of contractual services - $111,245 for information technology, $24,456 for transcription and $17,217 for building services.

So far, the special counsel has charged four people as part of the investigation including Manafort and Flynn.
