The Home Ministry has claimed that Cyclone Ockhi is likely to be less effective in Gujarat. Schools and colleges were shut.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has warned people from venturing close to the coastal areas and beaches in view of the high tide alert issued in Arabian Sea owing to the cyclone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meanwhile, appealed to BJP workers to extend a helping hand to those that would be likely hit by the cyclone, which is expected to make a landfall tonight on the state's southern coast in Surat.

According to the Special Weather Forecast Bulletin issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, the movement of the cyclonic depression over parts of Gujarat might be accompanied by a wet spell over the next three-four days, the EC noted.
