FA probe Guardiola's outburst at Redmond

"I want to make it absolutely clear that the Man City manager, Pep Guardiola, did not say what The Sun is falsely claiming in this story", he wrote. Redmond released a statement saying Guardiola "was very passionate, intense and aggressive but he was only very complimentary and positive to me".

Smith told Sky Sports that referee Jon Moss even apologised to him after the game.

Guardiola's behaviour appeared to be aggressive but he claimed afterwards he was merely praising Redmond's attacking qualities, something the once-capped England global corroborated in a statement issued on Friday (AEDT) to refute allegations made by The Sun newspaper that the City boss directed foul and abusive language towards him.

"Am I pleased? Yes, for sure, Nathan is a very important player for us, but after the other day I made six changes because I expected more players to be fresh", Pellegrino said.

In a post on social media, the Southampton forward said: "When one of the world's best managers compliments you or gives advice in any way, you listen".

He said, "Oriol for me is one of the leaders of the club, of this team, one of the captains too". What I said is what I said and what Nathan said in his statement. "But they didn't want to play, they were time-wasting from the ninth minute". Everyone wants to win the game, definitely. "I did the same after a game in Dortmund and I had regrets then after the game and the same now", he explained. Adding to that at a press conference yesterday, he said: "I said to Nathan, "You have to attack because you have the quality to do that". "He is a team player on and off the pitch".

"I've faced this kind of team a lot in my career and I have to think how to beat them. It's the same as I do to beat them". "My emotion was there because of how I celebrated, scored the goal after 96 minutes".

"Nothing negative or offensive was said towards me from Pep and that's what makes him one of the best managers in world football".

That followed a similar, injury-time victor at Bournemouth and a point-saving late equaliser with Everton, the only team to have avoided defeat against rampant City this season.

"I played against millions in managers and the different ways they play".

City host West Ham at 16:00 GMT on Sunday, while Southampton travel to south-coast rivals Bournemouth at 13:30 on the same day.
