Although Antonio Valencia's early strike and Jesse Lingard's brace ultimately secured a first win for United at the Emirates Stadium since 2014, De Gea's significant contribution can not be overlooked as the no.1 was in outstanding form between the sticks - beaten only by Alexandre Lacazette's strike early in the second half.

Wenger saw his side gift United two goals in the first 12 minutes on Saturday and failed to take anything from the game despite having an incredible 33 shots on goal.

Arsenal had a few more chances after conceding the third, but after Pogba was sent off in the 74th minute for a stamp on Hector Bellerin, United finally started defending with some goal, and limited the Gunners to half chances to see out the result. "We defended very well, I don't think they created many chances after that, so the three points stayed with us".

"If I am a player, and I think with what we produced we have a huge potential, and we lose the game, we can not accept that". But we have the experience to get better out of a game like that, you know.

"But, what makes you angry is that you produce that performance and in the end you have nothing to show for it".

"There were unbelievable individuals performances and collectively we were very strong".

All things considered, today's Premier League pairing between Manchester United and Arsenal was a pretty thrilling affair.

They'll be hoping to close the eight point gap on rivals Manchester City this evening when they face Arsenal at the Emirates.

Until Pogba's dismissal, everything had looked flawless for United, for whom David De Gea was outstanding and was beaten only by Alexandre Lacazette just after the interval.

In a post-match huddle which also included Jose Mourinho, Thierry Henry and William Gallas, he gestured that it may have been Bellerin's odd attempt to tackle that was to blame. Martial turned and flicked the ball in one breathtaking movement back to Lingard, who finished first-time off the post.

United midfielder Ander Herrera said: "We don't think about City".

'We are second and are chasing the top of the table.
