1 dead after hit-and-run driver strikes several pedestrians in Queens

One person is dead and five are injured after a hit-and-run incident outside a hookah bar in NY early Sunday, police said.

Police say they are still searching for the driver. They added that the suspected attacker fled the scene; the search for the driver is ongoing. According to the NYPD, the crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. after a stabbing at a hookah bar on Liberty Avenue in South Ozone Park.

One of the injured is in critical condition and four others are stable, authorities said. The pair were recovering and in stable condition. The vehicle came "from nowhere and hit the whole group" on the sidewalk, the witness told the local media, adding that "the auto was going really fast" and he saw "bodies flying". The names and ages of the people struck were not immediately available.

A dispute ensued with others outside the club, and the man drove his auto up onto the sidewalk and into a crowd of people before leaving the scene, Barrere said.

Police have not released any information about the victims, the driver or the vehicle.
