Frost replaces Mike Riley, who dismissed after three underwhelming seasons in Lincoln last month. Nevertheless, all of this was leaked while UCF is on the field competing in the AAC Championship Game, which it won 62-55 in dramatic fashion in double overtime against Memphis.

It took a long, rumor-filled week before it finally became official, but in the end, Nebraska got the man they wanted by naming Frost as its 33rd head coach.

Born and raised in the state of Nebraska, Frost played his college football for the Cornhuskers and was a quarterback for two national championship teams.

Frost was the unanimous selection for the AAC Coach of the Year and is now a semifinalist for the George Munger Coach of the Year.

When asked about interest from Nebraska, Frost replied, "I'd be hurt if Nebraska wasn't interested in me".

"It is a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to return to Nebraska and to lead the Husker football program", Frost said. The former OR offensive coordinator initially signed on with UCF in the winter of 2015. His first coaching job at a Power Five program came at OR, where he spent six seasons (2009-15).

Frost will be officially introduced as Nebraska's head coach during a press conference on Sunday, Dec. 3, at noon.

Though he had to make the change from quarterback to safety to make it in the NFL, Frost ended up playing six pro seasons with the Jets, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
