In response, both Vitter and Bjork referenced that Ole Miss is one of only three SEC schools to not be found guilty of infractions in the last 20 years. Most notably, the NCAA decided the one-year self-imposed postseason ban was not enough for the Rebels, who finished the regular season with a 6-6 record.

Because Ole Miss is bowl-banned for 2018, players entering their last year of eligibility are allowed to transfer from the program without sitting out a year in "academic residence".

The additional bowl ban means that players now with the program have the ability to transfer to other FBS institutions without sitting out a year as generally mandated by the NCAA.

The NCAA extended Ole Miss football's postseason ban to two seasons, cut scholarships and handed down show-cause orders to four former coaches and athletics employees Friday, concluding a lengthy investigation of recruiting violations that dated from 2012.

Ole Miss officials have been notified that they will receive their long-awaited ruling from the NCAA committee on infractions Friday morning, according to a report by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger.

Six football staff members and 12 boosters were involved in the violations, which included providing $37,000 to prospects through cash payments, use of automobiles, lodging, transportation, meals and apparel.

The COI expressly agreed that I "promoted an atmosphere of compliance and expected my staff to abide by the rules".

Further, he maintains that he hopes to be a head coach again "as soon as possible" and makes sure to emphasize the fact that his penalties do not prevent him from being an assistant coach right away.

Every coach mentioned in the Notice of Allegations received a show-cause penalty of some timeframe, including former head football coach Hugh Freeze (one year), former assistant athletic director for high school and junior college relations Barney Farrar and former assistant David Saunders, who worked for former coach Houston Nutt and was most recently at Louisiana-Lafayette (2011-14). The Rebels got a new bowl ban, financial penalties, a loss of scholarships and individuals have also been penalized. There will also be a vacation of wins ineligible athletes competed in. The committee said it reviewed 53,000 pages of information related to the case. That won't be easy considering the additional postseason ban for the 2018 season.
