200 terrorists killed in J&K in 2017

Five terrorists including four from Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), a Pakistan-based terror outfit, were on Thursday killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Kashmir's Budgam and Baramulla districts, officials said.

As the forces launched a cordon-and-search operation, the hiding militants opened fire triggering the encounter, which is still on, police said.

On Thursday Security forces Killed 5 militants in a close encounter. Meanwhile, eight youths were injured in clashes near the encounter site in Futlipora village.

A teenager was injured when a mob clashed with the army in Pakherpora Chowk.

Reports said that the youths took to streets and pelted stones at the security forces to disrupt the anti-militant operation. One of the seriously injured, a 15-year-old boy, was shifted to a Srinagar hospital, a report said.

There has been an increase in civilian killings in militancy-related violence as well with 54 civilians getting killed this year compared to 14 last year. The defence spokesman here said that the SOG, Army's 22 Rashtriya Rifles and 9 Para and the CRPF's 92 Battalion launched a cordon-and- search operation in the area after inputs about the presence of militants.

The mob also torched a private vehicle in Futlipora, which was allegedly used by the security forces during the operation and later left behind near the gunfight site.

Internet services have been snapped in Central Kashmir's Budgam district.

The number of killed militants this year is all time high in last seven years.

Another militant was killed in Sagipora-Sopore, 55 kms from here in north Kashmir Baramulla district yesterday.
