The star duo's contracts expire at the end of the season and Gunners chiefs are scrambling tie them down on new deals.

A report by The Sun says the club's sporting director is not sure the midfielder presents the best possible fit, and with Ozil's contract expiring in the summer, a January deal would be "gifting" Arsenal a fee. The Catalan officials clearly haven't forgotten about Ozil's time with their league rivals Real Madrid and they'll hope he can replicate the same form for Barcelona as he did with Los Blancos.

"They are committed to the group and we will see what happens". It does not depend on me.

Andreu and Miguelsanz reported Sanllehi has already met in London with Ozil's agent, Erkut Sogut, and that "everything was practically closed", with Segura's green light thought to be the last hurdle in completing a January transfer. The situation is clear.

And, in news that will prick the ears of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, Arsenal have supposedly told Barcelona they must toe the line in order to land Ozil.

If not they are prepared to wait until the end of the season to get their man - although Manchester City, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also shown interest.

"If the club want them to stay beyond December [the January transfer window] they will follow".

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the 29-year-old, although the club's board are said to be split over a potential bid for the World Cup victor.
