White House panel discussion on Trump's endorsement of Moore, MSNBC analyst John Heilemann explained that there was no "moral consistency or ethic consistency" to Trump's decision to toss his support behind Moore because all Trump "cares about is himself". "We don't need a liberal person in there, a Democrat, Jones", Trump said in his most detailed comments on the embattled GOP hopeful moments before the president boarded Marine One outside the White House. But he ill-advisedly shifted to the claim that "you don't need somebody who's soft on crime like Jones".

The president spoke to reporters before heading to Mar-a-Lago, where he'll be spending Thanksgiving.

Several allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced during the 2016 presidential campaign against Trump, who has denied them.

"I think it's a very special time because a lot of things are coming out and I think that's good for our society and I think it's very, very good for women", the president said.

He was also caught on tape in 2005 boasting that he could grab women's private parts.

Asked whether that meant Republicans should vote for Moore, Conway responded: "I'm telling you that we want the votes in the Senate to get this tax bill through". But he has waded into other sexual assault allegations that have come to light recently against Democratic politicians, tweeting criticism of Sen. Jeff Flake, who has been critical of Trump and is retiring in 2018, said Monday. It's the first direct assault by the Jones camp against Moore on the allegations.

One of them, Leigh Corfman, said she was 14 years old when Moore, then 32, initiated sexual contact with her.
