Thanks to parity in the National Football League, the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans still have hope when they face each other on Sunday (10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET, FOX, DirecTV).

Chris Johnson played in four games for the Arizona Cardinals this season before he was ultimately cut in favor the team trading for RB Adrian Peterson.

He now serves as the Cardinals quarterback coach and was named to the job earlier this year.

Blaine Gabbert "played his ass off", Bruce Arians said, and quarterback was not at the top of the Cardinals' issues list Sunday against the Texans.

"He can spin it as good as anybody I've ever had", Arians said earlier this week of Gabbert.

The Cardinals had gotten a career-high three touchdown passes out of their third-string QB, but trailed, 24-21, with six minutes to go. "At that point in the game, in retrospect, we should have punted". You deserve to lose, especially when you make the decision I made and the play I called. That led to a 20-yard Larry Fitzgerald touchdown catch.

Laura's Look: More sunshine with less wind Sunday
Beyond this morning's rain chance, no significant rain chances are in the mix through the next several days. Monday, a sharp cold front will drive through Montana with falling temperatures and falling snow.

For various reasons, there's been a dramatic falloff for both the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals when it comes to their defensive units this season.

After that, however, the Cardinals got into Houston territory just once more in five possessions, with Gabbert throwing two interceptions late and the fourth-down stuff changing the complexion of the game. Whether its Stanton or Gabbert under center, Cardinals need improved play at the position to win and keep themselves in the playoff hunt. "I trusted Adrian, and we just turned too many guys loose up the middle".

The Cardinals' run game struggled to get going all game.

"He saw the field extremely well", Arians said.

The Texans (3-6) will start Tom Savage, but he didn't perform well during the 33-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 10.
