Mueller probes Flynn's role in alleged plan to deliver cleric to Turkey

NBC News reported that Flynn is under investigation for involvement in the return of an alleged political enemy of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Turkey.

He is believed to be under investigation for not registering as a foreign agent, a charge leveled at former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort in an indictment from Mueller.

In September, the Wall Street Journal reported that Rohrabacher offered Trump a deal that to protect Julian Assange, creator of WikiLeaks, which released emails damaging to Hillary Clinton ahead of the 2016 election, from legal peril.

"Under the alleged proposal, Mr. Flynn and his son, Michael Flynn Jr, were to be paid as much as $15 million for delivering Fethullah Gulen to the Turkish government, according to people with knowledge of discussions Mr. Flynn had with Turkish representatives", the Journal said. Flynn then retroactively registered as a foreign agent.

The new allegation, that Flynn and his son engaged in a conspiracy to arrange the rendition of Fethullah Gülen to the Erdoğan government - which accuses the cleric of plotting an abortive coup in July 2016 - could if confirmed result in even more serious charges.

According to the sources, Mueller recently interviewed witnesses over the December 2016 meeting between the Turkish officials and Flynn at the swanky 21 Club in New York City.

Prof Clare McGlynn, from Durham Law School, said that the United Kingdom should establish a similar organisation to Australia's e-safety commission.

According to the two reports, the discussions included details of how Gulen, a Muslim cleric who lives in Pennsylvania and has a large Turkish following, could be flown secretly by private jet to the isolated Turkish prison island of Imrali.

Flynn worked on behalf of the Turkish government before being named White House National Security Adviser for President Trump, but did not disclose his lobbying work for the country until March. It is not clear if any money changed hands or if any preparatory steps were taken.

"If the facts involving Flynn and his son are true, or even mostly true, it indicates an incredible propensity for outrageously illegal conduct", said Ryan Goodman, a NY law professor and former Pentagon counsel.

Lt. General Michael Flynn hasn't taken any interviews since leaving the White House and becoming a subject of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe.

Nor did the attorney representing the elder Flynn, Robert Kelner.

The Daily Beast reported earlier this year that Rohrabacher was given instructions by Russian intelligence officials on how to alter sanctions legislation and to set up "a virtual show trial on Capitol Hill" last June, right at around the time that Donald Trump Jr. and key members of the Trump campaign met with Russian nationals who claimed to be representatives of the Russian government's efforts to undermine the candidacy of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
