Leigh Corfman told the Washington Post the sexual encounter occurred in early 1979, when she was 14-years of age, and Moore was 32. According to the story, she supports Republicans and voted for Donald Trump previous year. The age of consent in Alabama is 16.

He adds, "If these allegations are found to be true, Roy Moore must drop out of the Alabama special Senate election".

He is best known to many for his stunt in 2003, where he was removed from office after refusing to take down the Ten Commandments monument he had installed on the grounds of the state judicial building.

"If these allegations are true, Roy Moore should step aside for the all the obvious reasons - very disturbing allegations", McConnell told reporters.

Moore, now 70, is competing in the special election in Alabama on December 12 against Democrat Doug Jones.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., released a statement calling upon Moore to step down immediately. He's also a Vietnam veteran and former prosecutor.
