Texas church shooting: Facts minus speculation

KENS 5 arrived on the scene around 12 p.m. and witnessed tarps covering bodies, along with a very heavy police presence outside of the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Tx.

TV news anchors discussed the fact that the church, located about 40 minutes southeast of San Antonio, posts its services to YouTube, and thus there may be a recording of the shooting that investigators will be able to study.

The shooter was killed after a brief chase north into neighboring Guadalupe County, according to Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office spokesman Robert Murphy.

U.S. President Donald Trump, now in Japan, tweeted to say that the FBI was investigating the shooting.

The FBI and Texas Rangers are reportedly on the scene.

Local media report a two-year-old is among the shooting victims. It was unclear whether the shooter died from a police bullet or at his own hand.

Texan Governor Greg Abbott has tweeted his shock at the church shooting.

Sunday's attack comes just a month after the one of the deadliest mass shootings in United States history, when 58-year-old Stephen Paddock killed 59 people and at least 527 others.

First responders converged on the church in the small town and helicopters are taking victims to hospitals. Other reports indicate more than a dozen people were shot, but there has been no report on any deaths.

Emergency officials are on scene and updated reports are expected.
