As Samsung on Monday, October 23 distributed free luxury phones to 200 passengers, the company wants to convey that its disaster days for the Note line is over. As for the update, it's rumored to include changes to the device's user interface.

As the information isn't coming directly from Samsung, it's not certain just yet, so don't get your hopes too high just yet. It comes from an unknown source with an unknown track record.

Samsung, which holds a majority share in the Android market, has stated that it is working on its Android Oreo update and will start rolling it out early next year. Those versions are G950FXXE1ZQI7 and G955FXXU1ZQI7.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9Plus will probably be released in March or April. Participants would have to have a Galaxy S8 that's on T-Mobile or Sprint.

Kenya police disperse demonstrators as Odinga tempers poll protest call

Another comment in the ad no doubt meant to compare Samsung's Galaxy phones to the iPhone 8 and X (and Google's latest releases) is "the front of the phone pretty much looks like if it was all screen". Popular devices like the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 weren't included in the program. Note that if you are not in the USA, flashing the firmware for the unlocked model won't get you into Android Oreo beta program.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Android 8.0 updates recently popped up in benchmarks, a sign that they're in testing behind the scenes.

The new smartphones, Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy 9 Plus, have been one of the most exciting flagships of 2017.

That said, Samsung and its carrier partners usually extend bug fixes and security patches to devices well beyond the two-year mark.
