The magazine estimated that his net worth has dropped by $600,000 to $3.1 billion from $3.7 billion since a year ago. The previous year has cost POTUS another $600 million, most of it because the Big Apple heart of his real estate empire is rotting, but also because the Trump brand in hospitality has become as toxic as the Trump brand in politics. In the past two years, the minimum was $1.7 billion.

Forbes' list is once again topped by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates with a net worth of $89bn, followed by Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffett.

Forbes said it estimated Trump's net worth through months of reporting and interviews, in part because the president has never released his tax forms.

According to Forbes, half of Trump's wealth comes from New York City real estate. The magazine attributes his "decline in wealth to challenging NY real estate market, a costly lawsuit and an expensive presidential campaign".
