The storm, moving east at 3 miles per hour, has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.

The NHC said Ophelia is expected to become a hurricane either late Wednesday or early Thursday.

As of 5 a.m. EDT, Ophelia, which isn't now a threat to any land, was centered about 785 miles (1,265 kilometers) southwest of the Azores and moving southeast near 6 mph (9 kph).

Hurricane Ophelia, which formed this afternoon, is the 10th consecutive hurricane this season, putting 2017 in a unique club that includes just three previous years that have spawned ten hurricanes in a row. Ophelia will then run into an approaching deep-layer trough that will make the hurricane accelerate toward the northeast.
