San Juan mayor in hurricane spotlight after Trump tweets

For most of the week, Trump has deployed Rosello's remarks to deflect criticism of the federal government's response.

Yet even in voicing optimism and sympathy, Trump drew attention again to Puerto Rico's pre-hurricane debt burden and infrastructure woes, leaving doubt how far Washington will go to make the US territory whole. She was joined by Homeland Security adviser Tom Bossert.

"If the Jones Act is relaxed, foreign vessels can move between the USA mainland to Puerto Rico to provide aid. So right now by President Trump coming here, it's very helpful and giving us the expectation and the hope that the help will be coming to Puerto Rico".

In enumerable ways large and small, numerous 3.4 million inhabitants of Puerto Rico struggled through a 10th day with little or no access to basic necessities - from electricity and clean, running water to communications, food and medicine. Puerto Rico has been in a crisis of declining financial and bankruptcy and now that the damage from the hurricane is significant, there will be more strain on the costs of relief. While it was an "unprecedented storm", there is an "unprecedented response".

He added, "And Puerto Rico is bigger than Katrina".

Rihanna on Thursday shared an image with the president of the New York Daily News's September 27 front page which read, "No food, no water, no power, no medical care for the dying ..." Glass is a naval aircrewman (helicopter) assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 22, attached to the USS Wasp. The hurricanes crippled the island's already weakened waste and water treatment plants while fallen trees and strewn debris block roads and cellphone service remains limited. Their priority the day before was to distribute these goods and to clear debris and landslides to make the deliveries. People in need of medical care are mainly being transferred to open hospitals in the island's northeast, and those in need of critical care are being flown off the island.

Air travel. 39 passenger flights were expected on Sunday in Puerto Rico, which has a maximum efficiency of 60 flights.

"President Obama should have gone to Louisiana days ago, instead of golfing", he tweeted in August of past year, after severe flooding in the state.

"I think we have to filter out the noise", he said from FEMA headquarters.

Elaine Duke, the department's acting secretary, drew a sharp rebuke from San Juan's mayor for seeming to play down the suffering.

Hurricane Maria slammed into the island with maximum sustained winds of 155 miles per hour, bringing with it torrential rains and catastrophic wind gusts. After saying she had not been told anything, Cruz added a simple reason for it: she's not one of them.

Asked how long it would take for Puerto Rico to recover, Buchanan, the general leading the military effort, gave a slight sigh and said: "This is a very, very long duration".

The mayor rebuked the federal response again Friday: "If anybody out there is listening to us, we are dying, and you are killing us with the inefficiency and the bureaucracy".
