Macklemore to donate proceeds from Same Love to marriage equality campaign

Following a presentation at the Policy Exchange think tank in London overnight, Mr Dutton said two songs should be played at the NRL Grand Final, if U.S. rapper Macklemore is allowed to perform his pro-marriage equality song.

Former prime minister Tony Abbott supported the petition, tweeting: "Footy fans shouldn't be subjected to a politicised grand final".

Macklemore arrives in Australia as the nation decides whether to legalise same-sex marriage in the postal plebiscite.

"I want to donate my portion of the proceeds from Same Love that I get off of that record here in Australia to voting yes", he told Nine.

In response to the controversy, Macklemore told The Cruz Show that he would certainly be "going to Australia to perform at kind of the Super Bowl of their rugby league", reports The Guardian.

Responding to the controversy Thursday, Macklemore said on an U.S. radio show he was "going harder" in response to the anger around his performance.

A national survey on whether or not to allow same-sex marriage in Australia was mailed out to voters on September 12, kicking off a two-month campaign on the issue.

Alex Greenwich, co-chair of Australian Marriage Equality, took to Twitter to praise to thank the rapper.

"I think people have had up to here with the same-sex marriage issue".

"Same Love" was released in 2012 and by the end of year 2013 chart in Australia it had become the 14th biggest selling song of the year.
