The disgraced former National Football League star was freed from the Lovelock Correctional Center in Las Vegas after serving nine years in jail, and the Nevada Department of Corrections shared a video that captured the very moment that the controversial figure walked through the doors, enjoying his first seconds of freedom.

While Simpson said at his parole hearing that he meant to live with a friend in Florida upon his release, the Florida Department of Corrections has not received the required paperwork that would allow him to do so.

In 1994 the former football player's life was turned upside down after being accused of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

"One hundred percent Mr. Simpson will be able to move to Florida", he said Sunday.

Tom Scotto, a friend of Simpson's, told USA Today that Simpson has invested $5 million in a private pension. "He's a very positive guy and he just wants to move forward", Scotto said.

O.J. was previously granted parole after a dramatic hearing on July 20 after four members of the Nevada Board of Parole agreed that inmate No. 1027820, O.J., at Nevada's Lovelock Correctional Facility served enough time for the crime.

Nevada state prisons spokeswoman Brooke Keast told The Associated Press that Simpson was released at 12:08 a.m. PDT from Lovelock Correctional Center in northern Nevada.

But Florida prison officials said documents weren't filed, and the state attorney general says she doesn't want Simpson to live in the state. "I'm good to go", Cook told CNN. Simpson was picked up by an unidentified associate during the wee hours Sunday morning to avoid media attention.

The midnight timing was "to ensure public safety and reduce the potential for incident", the department said in a brief statement that accompanied the video and a photo showing Simpson signing some papers. Before his release, Simpson met with his parole officer - he will face restrictions of up to five years of parole supervision. "He's going to focus on kids, friends, his family and golf". Simpson was convicted of stealing sports memorabilia during a botched heist which took place in a Las Vegas hotel room.
