The extension gives Westbrook the biggest contract in National Basketball Association history, $233 million over six years when combined with his $28.5 million salary this season, according to Wojnarowski. He will now earn $233 million overall, including $205 million for the new extension and $28 million for his 2017-18 salary.

Last week at Thunder media day, GM Sam Presti told reporters he wasn't concerned with the fact that training camp was set to begin without an answer from Westbrook about the extension, which the Thunder had put on table back in June. To have him cement his legacy as a leader as we enter into our 10th season in Oklahoma City is extraordinary. Friday, Westbrook didn't disappoint - he will be with the Thunder through his prime.

"We are extremely fortunate to have an athlete, competitor and person such as Russell wear the Thunder uniform", Presti said.

During a time in which some of the NBA's biggest stars seem to change teams every year, Russell Westbrook isn't going anywhere.

According to an Adrian Wojnarowski report, superstar point guard Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to a six-year contract extension worth an estimated $205 million dollars. "I am so honored to have the opportunity to continue my career here with the Thunder. I got that home game for the Rockets on Christmas Day and I am looking forward to them showing up and showing out!" He responded by winning the NBA MVP award, becoming the first player in 55 years to average a triple-double for an entire season.

Westbrook's extension not only assures the Thunder will remain relevant for years to come, it could help them this coming summer. Amid the Thunder's despair in losing Durant, Westbrook's shorter-term commitment gave Presti and assistant GM Troy Weaver the ability to pursue the trades with in and NY to acquire George and Anthony, respectively.
