Officials said the gunman remained holed up in the victim's home on Elm Street at Sherman Avenue.

Officers from surrounding towns assisted the New Haven Police Department on Saturday. The shooter is believed to be still inside the house and is believed to be the woman's husband.

Visitor access and the emergency room are locked down at Yale-New Haven Hospital due to the shooting, the hospital confirmed. "After discharging his firearm, the officer determined the object in the male's hand was not a weapon", Moore said.
