Kingsman: The Golden Circle Review

Kingsman: The Secret Service lit up theaters three years ago with delightfully violent action, hilariously risque one-liners and fun satire of spy movie clichés - it was only inevitable that we'd get a sequel. However, while most of the humour lands, the jokes revolving around Elton John really knock the film towards the end.

"Kingsman" is draaaaaawn out to a painful two hours and 20 minutes, at which point the spy riffs have turned into self-parody and "The Golden Circle" feels like one of the circles of Hell.

Unfortunately it seems like the curse of the sequel is upon us, the second movie, titled The Golden Circle isn't as interesting.

Not only does Egerton reprise his role but Mark Strong returns as Merlin along with Firth who stars as Harry Hart - despite being killed in the first movie.

But before Eggsy and fellow agent Merlin (Mark Strong) can begin to connect the dots that led Charlie to Kingsman headquarters, a missile barrage takes out the rest of the organization. With no other choice, Eggsy has to head over to the U.S. and seek help from the Statesman - the American version of Kingsman. Head honcho, Champ (Jeff Bridges); head bad-ass, Tequila (Channing Tatum); and head tech person, Ginger Ale (Halle Berry), appear exactly as long as contractually obligated.

Crude Oil Firms Above $50
This offset the fact that US oil production increased again this week by an impressive 157,000 barrels a day. However, U.S. crude remains rangebound around $50.

Wolf says time running out on budget deal before downgrade
The downgrade means Pennsylvania will pay more to borrow money, potentially tens of millions of dollars a year. When Tom Wolf became governor, he proposed an aggressive and fair tax policy to close the deficit.

Yet, to cite just one instance of the movie's excesses, the audience watches as characters are fed into a meat grinder. After all, the legendary pop star was nearly given more screen time than Channing Tatum and it's already looking like he'll definitely be back if that end scene is anything to go by. Everything about the film is bigger than the first with the lore being built upon, more locations being visited, a vast array of likeable characters being introduced and a real step up in terms of action and excitement. Thus, if we're really picking a victor among the Kingsman cast, it'd no doubt be Jack "J.B".

Reviews for the film have been mixed, with Variety's Peter Debruge faulting "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" for being " so outlandish that "Moonraker" suddenly looks plausible by comparison". There are multiple callbacks to and re-creations of elements from the first movie, but whatever freshness was present in the garish, often nasty take on James Bond-style espionage, it has already faded away.

On one hand, this joke acts as the ideal callback to the final scene of Kingsman: The Secret Service whereEggsy finally enters Princess Tilde's very own backstage in the most intimate way possible.

Continuing to work from a comic book series by Matt Millar and Dave Gibbons, Vaughn edges Eggsy toward a more committed relationship with his live-in girlfriend, Tilde (Hanna Alstrom), a Swedish princess he rescued from peril in the first outing.
