The opening match of week 4 in the Premier League was one that won't be forgotten for a while: Manchester City beat Liverpool 5-0, taking full advantage of Sadio Mane getting sent off for his high boot on goalkeeper Ederson. Hopefully he can come back as soon as possible.

A third for Pep Guardiola's men was quick to arrive after the break, Aguero putting the ball on a plate for Jesus to grab a brace eight minutes after a fine pass from Fernandinho in the build-up.

"Very unlucky. I think everyone knows he didn't see the goalie", said Klopp.

"Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be hoping to make his Liverpool debut but with England captain Jordan Henderson and Emre Can, who I'm a big fan off, set to play I don't see him getting a game".

On a day where the Reds' unbeaten start to the season came to an abrupt end at the hands of a ruthless City side, the game swung in favour of the hosts on a rather controversial sending off in the first-half.

There was not the slightest chance for Liverpool to at least score one goal, especially in the second half.

"Sadio feels bad about it".

Mane posted a message of support to Ederson following the game, wishing the 'keeper well. We have now to continue with the pre-season, not too long, but in a few sessions we have to give ourselves the time because in the next month we have seven games.

Gabriel Jesus made it 3-0 either side of half-time and was then replaced by Leroy Sane, who added a pair of late goals.

Jurgen Klopp has chose to make three changes to his starting XI from the team that beat Arsenal 4-0 before the worldwide break.

"We had to find the right moment with Sergio, Kevin (De Bruyne) and David (Silva)".

Manchester City vs Liverpool - live: Jurgen Klopp's men face major test.

For Liverpool, it isn't all doom and gloom as they can take solace from the fact that they were competitive until Mane's dismissal and they don't have time to brood for a Champions League tie against Sevilla looms large on the horizon.
