Piyush Goyal takes charge as Minister of Railways

The 53-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party man is likely to be elevated as the Railway Minister, a prestigious portfolio in Narendra Modi's cabinet.

Goyal was on Sunday given charge of the Railway Ministry, replacing Prabhu, who shifts to Commerce and Industry that was with Nirmala Sitharaman, who has now become India's first, full-fledged Defence Minister. The Central and Western railway officials hope that Goyal will make sure several railway projects that had been piled up will finally get completed.

On the other hand, Goyal's stint as the power and coal minister has been a fruitful one, bringing in a sea change in the critical power sector.
