Princess Mako of Japan leaving royal family to marry

Princess Mako, the granddaughter of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, has officially announced her engagement to a commoner after receiving the emperor's approval.

Kei Komuro and Princess Mako, both 25, marriage news can be good for some but may not for the royal family.

"I was aware since my childhood that I'll leave a royal status once I marry", she said at a student talk in Shibuya, Tokyo. "Having a family still goes beyond my imagination, but I hope to make one that is warm, comfortable and filled with smiles", she said, while everyone went "aaaaah" again. They happy couple said their relationship started after meeting at Tokyo's International Christian University five years ago.

The princess works as a researcher at a Tokyo museum, while Komuro, a resident of Yokohama city, south of the capital, is a legal assistant and undertaking a Master's degree in business law. As she is a female, she will lose royal status as the law does not apply to royal males.

He won her over with his "bright smiles like the sun", and the couple had a long-distance relationship for a year before Komuro proposed in 2013. Yes, it is not a film scene but in actual, Princess Mako fell in love with his classmate Kei Komuro who is a common man.

This means Princess Mako, the daughter of Fumihito, Prince Akishino, and Kiko, Princess Akishino, will have to relinquish her royal status and be registered as an ordinary citizen following her marriage to Komuro.
