Four West Nile Virus Human Cases Confirmed In Michigan

The Southern Nevada Health District reported Thursday the second case of West Nile virus in a Clark County resident in 2017.

Mosquitoes are known carriers of WNV and other disease-causing viruses.

"The most effective way to avoid WNV infection is to prevent mosquito bites, county health officials said, in a statement". About one in five people infected becomes ill within two to 14 days with symptoms including fever, headache, joint pain, muscle pain, and occasionally nausea and vomiting. In a press release, he said, "Most people who contract West Nile virus show no symptoms at all, or show mild symptoms, and will recover without a visit to the doctor". A few people might develop severe symptoms in which hospitalization is required. And severe symptoms of the illness can lead to encephalitis or meningitis or even death. Eliminate all sources of standing water on your property, including flower pots, old vehicle tires, rain gutters and pet bowls.

Discard old tires, bottles, pots, broken appliances and other items not being used. Empty any unused flowerpots and wading pools, and change water in birdbaths frequently.
