Chris Sale reaches 1500 career strikeouts

Chris Sale struck out 11 in seven-plus scoreless innings and became the fastest pitcher to reach 1,500 strikeouts when the Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 on Tuesday night. His first two outings were ideal innings in which he combined for three strikeouts.

"He basically matched (Sale) until he ran out of his pitches there at the end", said Gibbons.

Incredibly enough, Sale is set to blow by that number with the Red Sox this season.

The loss drops Toronto to 61-71 and puts the Jays further back of an AL Wild Card berth that is looking increasingly unlikely with each passing game. He didn't walk a single batter and struck out 4.

No, first and foremost, the Red Sox wanted a guy who could run.

Now in Sale's defense it's only been a pair of starts in an MVP caliber season, however match ups are crucial if in any sport, in baseball, and if at anytime, in the postseason. I'm better than that, and I will be better than that.

He scattered three hits through the first two innings before rolling until the sixth, when the Red Sox broke a scoreless tie.

Oil Prices Set To Rise as Supply-Demand Gap Closes Up
Refinery closures has shifted gasoline futures higher however, as it makes the product harder to come by and thus priced higher. Flooding from Hurricane Harvey is devastating the Houston and Galveston areas of Texas, major hubs for US oil refining.

USA second-quarter GDP growth revised up, fastest in over two years
Economists had forecast a slight increase to 2.7% from 2.6% on the back of stronger consumer spending. With GDP quickening in the second quarter, the economy grew 2.1 percent in the first half of 2017.

US Missiles Destroy Airborne Target in Successful Defense Test (Video, Photos)
The military has conducted three tests in total, but during a test in June, the interceptor failed as a result of human error. Sailors on the USS John Paul Jones , a guided-missile destroyer based in Hawaii, conducted the test.

The 36-year-old took an early scoring opportunity away from the visitors when he scooped up the ball in right field and unleashed a rocket towards home plate as Eduardo Nunez was rounding third. Texas' Martin Perez (10-10) lasted seven innings, scattering eight hits and limiting the Astros to two runs.

Dominic Leone came on in relief of Anderson and served up a solo homer to Hanley Ramirez in the seventh inning. He took a one-hitter into the eighth inning but was pulled after allowing consecutive base hits to begin the inning.

Nunez moved up to second base, infielders moved in toward the grass for a potential play at the plate, and Andrew Benintendi singled over the drawn-in infield for the Sox' third run of the night.

Kendrys Morales had two of Toronto's three hits against Sale.

Ryan Goins singled to right to load the bases for Steve Pearce, whose grounder to shortstop forced Goins at second to end the inning. "He got into a great rhythm and a great groove where, for six straight innings, he's retiring everyone". Coming off his worst start of the season in Cleveland, facing a team he's dominated throughout his career was all Sale needed to get back on track.

NOTES: Toronto optioned RHP Leonel Campos to Triple-A Buffalo to make room for LHP Brett Anderson.

As the Blue Jays enter the final month of the regular season, they'll be entering into evaluation mode with many of their regulars, and any of the youngsters that they choose to call up to join the roster. Sale has certainly not looked like his usually dominant self against the Indians, as he has a 14.63 ERA in his two starts against them (both in August). After Craig Kimbrel, the bullpen had some solid names, but no stars. On Wednesday, Boston will start right-hander Rick Porcello (8-15, 4.57 ERA), and the Blue Jays will counter with left-hander J.A. Happ (6-10, 4.10).
