Network Rail has warned of delays for the rest of today

SWT and Network Rail are advising passengers not to travel following a low speed, partial derailment at London Waterloo this morning.

Officials added: 'Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Later at Waterloo derailed another train that caused delays in movement of trains.

Network Rail said there was a "slow speed buffer collision" at around 6:20am and two people suffered minor injuries.

The incidents affected services into London Waterloo, Britain's busiest railway station, which is undergoing huge improvement works that have temporarily closed more than half its platforms.

At 5.40am on Tuesday a passenger train collided with a stationary barrier train.

Three people were checked over by paramedics at the scene but none needed hospital treatment. Disruption is expected until 02:00 on 17 August.

"Due to a signal failure and an operational incident we now advise to avoid travelling to or from London Waterloo", the company said.

Services were already reduced due to ongoing platform works at Waterloo Station.

Twitter user Kavita said: "Been waiting half an hour at Waterloo for a train to work". Network rail said it would "not be appropriate" to comment on the cause.

However, further platform closures means that many services will need to terminate before London Waterloo and many services will start away from London Waterloo.

South West Trains says tickets will be accepted on Cross Country trains between Bournemouth and Reading and Southern services between Southampton, Portsmouth and London Victoria via any reasonable route.
