Red Cross responds as floods and landslides affect 100000 people in Nepal

Ten more people were missing and the number of dead looked set to climb as large parts of the country were under water, officials said.

On Saturday, Mahara called on Indian ambassador Majeev Singh Puri to request him for New Delhi to open the floodgates on the Koshi, Gadak and Rapti rivers, and as per reports, India took prompt action and helped smooth discharge of waters.

Many highways have been obstructed and the government has mobilised security forces and government officials to start search and rescue operations as well as rehabilitation works promptly.

Efforts were also on to pack food items to be distributed to those affected by flooding and landslides, while helipads at Nepal Army's barracks have been kept ready for relief distribution.
