After being disqualified by the Supreme Court on July 28, Sharif stepped down and after staying in Murree and Islamabad, Sharif in the company of thousands of his supporters started on a road journey to his home in Lahore.

Although Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif was the first choice for NA-120 as PML-N candidate along with premiership, the nomination was withdrawn by Nawaz Sharif and he was told to continue in his province.

The motorcade of Pakistan's former prime minister hit and killed a 13-year-old boy who had come to a rally Friday at which Nawaz Sharif was protesting his recent ouster, officials said.

Sharif is now leading thousands of his supporters in a "homecoming" campaign, in which he started a rally from the capital of Islamabad on Wednesday and is scheduled to conclude Saturday night in Lahore.

"The Supreme Court should do justice to Sharif and restore him", he said.

As news of the boy's death made national headlines, Nawaz Sharif's daughter, Maryam Nawaz, took to Twitter to express grief over the incident and said that the local PML-N leadership had been asked to provide assistance to the grieved family. However, key leaders from Sharif's ruling PML-N party were conspicuous by their absence, with some commentators suggesting this could be a reflection of disagreements within the party.
