Six French soldiers have reportedly been injured after a vehicle rammed into them in the Paris suburb of Levallois-Perret.

A police operation was underway to find the auto and the driver involved in the incident, BBC reported. "This vehicle was waiting for them", he continued.

The Paris Police department said on Twitter that a search for the vehicle was underway.

The attack is the 15th attack on French soldiers and police officers in the past two-and-a-half years.

Patrick Balkany, the mayor of Levallois-Perret, has said that there is "no doubt that this is a deliberate attack".

They are part of Operation Sentinel, a large-scale security operation to patrol and guard French towns and cities that was deployed after the Charlie Hebdo attacks of January 2015.

The incident is the latest in a series targeting security forces in France guarding sites after a string of deadly attacks.

Earlier, French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said the attack was a "deliberate" act carried out by a "man on his own". "It all happened very quickly". "They must've really planned this", he told reporters.

The anti-terrorism unit of the Paris prosecutors' office has launched a probe into the incident. He confirmed the vehicle had targeted to the soldiers but added the motive of the attack remained unclear.

The attack comes four days after a teenager with a knife forced his way into the Eiffel Tower shouting "Allahu akbar" - the Arabic phrase for "God is great" - and told police he wanted to attack a soldier.

The country faced two major terrorist attacks - one in Paris and the other in Nice - that left more than 200 people killed following the magazine attack.

The increasing number of attacks spurred French counterterrorism prosecutors to ramp up investigations and actively pursue perpetrators who are connected to a terrorist enterprise and attempt to murder French security forces.

In June, a man identifying himself as a "soldier of the Caliphate" attacked a policeman on patrol outside Notre-Dame cathedral.
