Koeman has emphasised the importance of getting his three remaining targets; Swansea City attacker Gylfi Sigurdsson, a centre forward and a left-sided defender.

The creative midfielder has been consistently linked with a big money move to Goodison Park this summer as the Toffees' new ownership continue their ambitious spending policy.

Young forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin's fine finish secured Everton's passage into the Europa League play-off round, in which they will face Croatian outfit Hajduk Split, but Koeman knows that he can not fully rely on the England Under-20 starlet and must fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku, who joined Manchester United in a deal worth £90m last month.

The Iceland worldwide has been a target for Everton all summer with the Swans having already knocked back a reported £40million bid.

The former Spurs player has scored 30 goals in all competitions for Swansea, while Barkley, the man he would likely be replacing, has scored 27 since 2010.

After the match, Koeman insisted there is still plenty of work to be done in this transfer window, as he eyes three more signings.

Koeman, the Everton manager whose side host Sevilla in a friendly tomorrow, wants Sigurdsson in place by the start of next week.

'We are close, we have to wait.

"There has been no further update since I last spoke to the media on Wednesday", he said.

Swansea star Gylfi Sigurdsson is "close" to completing a transfer to Goodison Park this summer, but the deal is yet to be finalised.
