According to official reports, he had many close shaves with deaths in close encounters with the security forces. The forces realised about the presence of terrorists when they opened fire. Acting on specific input, joint cordon and search operations (CASO) was launched by 182 Battalion, 183 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) on Tuesday morning.

Two houses in the village were destroyed in the gunfight, but no civilian casualties were reported. Killing of Dujana is an important development in India's fight against terrorism in the valley.

The government forces blasted two houses at the encounter site even as protestors tried to disrupt the operation pelting rocks and raising pro-freedom slogans. One person was killed and 5-6 were injured in clashes.

After the retrieval of the bodies from the encounter site and the completion of medico-legal formalities, the body of the local militant was handed over to his family. He was involved in recruiting Reyaz Ahmad Dar @ Khalid son of Ab Aziz Dar resident of Satther Kakapora Pulwama, Arif Nabi Dar @ Rehan resident of Lelhar Kakapora and Ayoub Lone @ Hebtulla resident of Lelhar Kakapora.

#Dujana was also one of the top recruiter for the militants especially in south Kashmir.

The policemen have been asked to increase the patrol to prevent the protests in their respective jurisdictions, they said. "Abu Dujana was also a womanizer".

IGP Munir Khan said standard procedure will be followed with his last rites.

- After Abu Qasim's killing in October 2016, Abu Dujana was made the "commander" of Lashkar-e-Toiba unit in south Kashmir taking control of four districts. He is thought to be longest surviving foreign militant in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, mobile internet services were snapped across Kashmir as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.

Over a year later, Dujana was killed on Tuesday in an encounter at Hakripora, Pulwama. On Abu Dujana, there was a reward of 35 lakh rupees.

After the killing of Dujana, the hit list of the security forces now includes names of Zakir Rashid Bhatt, alias Musa; Reyaz AH Naikoo alias Zubair; Zeenat-UL-Islam, alias Alkarna; Wasim AH, alias Osama; Abu Hamas; and Showkat AH Tak, alias Huzaifa, says an ANI report.

Dujana had maintained a comparative passivity for over a year now, which the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Chinar Corps, J S Sandhu, also maintained in a presser today.

In the recent past, terrorists have become more active in Pulwama district.
