President Donald Trump has picked the retired Marine general to replace Reince Priebus as his chief of staff. Kelly says that he is "honored to be asked" to take the job.

He doubled down on that sentiment earlier this year when he appeared before the House Homeland Security Committee and said he believes that "smugglers" were bringing "tens of thousands of people to our nation's doorstep" from across the border "mostly from Central America and Mexico".

Kelly, 67, a retired four-star Marine Corps general, is now secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and will assume the chief of staff post on Monday.

Priebus also said his views on Trump haven't changed, adding he's still a fan of the President.

Trump tweeted that Kelly "has been a true star of my administration". "Truly one of our stars".

Aside from being in lockstep with Trump on immigration matters, he has also sided with the president on sensitive issues, such as leaks, which have riled the administration on multiple occasion.

Priebus and Scaramucci flew together on Air Force One to the NY event, but the White House press pool reported they didn't see the communications director on the plane for the return trip.

"Priebus" final departure was a humiliating coda for what had been a largely demeaning tenure during which he endured regular belittling from rival advisers - and even, at times, the president himself", The Post reports.

"I think this is a good appointment for the White House and I think the general will do a great job", he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on "The Situation Room." . Another person said: "Man, the West Wing must have a revolving door on it".

The latest resignation of a top official barely six months into Trump's reign as President, following former press secretary Sean Spicer and former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Shortly before the president deplaned, Priebus' black SUV pulled away, leaving the rest of the motorcade, including the president's vehicle, in the distance. On Thursday, he went on television and dared Priebus to deny leaking and described the two of them as Cain and Abel, the biblical brothers whose rivalry results in one killing the other.

Priebus said only that the president "wanted to go in a different direction". She said it had nothing to do with Scaramucci.

In the CNN interview, Priebus refused to respond to Scaramucci's vulgar comments about him or his allegations that he was a leaker.

Meanwhile, Scaramucci's wife has filed for divorce, according to the New York Post.

"She liked the nice Wall Street life and their home on Long Island, not the insane world of D.C.", an unnamed source told the tabloid.

Priebus and other officials thought Scaramucci was unqualified for the job, and had blocked him from previous efforts to join the White House.

Scaramucci was photographed without a ring at the White House Friday.
