The Doklam standoff is likely to dominate Doval's agenda and he is expected to speak to China's State Councillor Yang Jiechi to find a solution to the month-long standoff.

Even as the current dispute between India and China has a disputed territory in picture, the strong messages from both countries have left many speculating as to the consequent dialogues, or absence of it in the upcoming BRICS' (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) National Security Advisors' meeting in China.

He discussed issues concerning bilateral relations, worldwide and regional issues and multilateral affairs with the visiting security officials, the official Xinhua news agency said. The meet, where the five-nation bloc traditionally discusses counterterrorism and security issues, assumes significance in the view of festering border row between India and China.

While the overwhelming focus of the global media is on the ongoing India-China standoff in Doklam in the trijunction area, the Chinese media hasn't scaled down on its rhetoric much.

India said it acted in coordination with Bhutan to oppose the road construction, which "would represent a significant change of status quo with serious security implications".

Talking about Astana consensus, Singh said India and China must not allow differences to become disputes.

Doklam, at the tri-junction of India, Bhutan, and China, is of high strategic importance to all three. Beginning from Thursday Ajit Doval will attend the two-day BRICS National Security Advisers meet in Beijing.

Doval will be meeting President Xi Jinping with his counterparts from BRICS countries on Friday.

In a written reply, Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh said the two sides have agreed to continue their engagement at various levels to enhance mutual understanding and address outstanding issues. He added, "The crux now is Indian border troops illegally stayed on China's territory". It has also protested against the road construction by Chinese troops in Doklam.

China on June 26 alleged that Indian troops crossed the boundary line in the Sikkim sector of the China-India boundary.

China says it will not talk on the Doklam issue unless India withdraws troops from the region. It is not China but a set of problems common to all developing countries like corruption, a lack of quality education and healthcare is holding back India.
