The baby's mother, who is married to Mitchell, has spoken with police and is not a suspect.

Barber shop employees told police they found the abandoned infant after observing a baby carrier in the parking lot, the release stated.

While police were investigating the case at the parking lot, Mitchell was involved in a hit-and-run crash in Fairfield, police said.

The baby was airlifted to a children's hospital as a precaution due to redness in one eye.

Daniel Mitchell of Fairfield was identified from witness reports and surveillance video from a nearby business.

Security video showed Daniel Mitchell of Fairfield drive into the parking lot at Sunset Shopping Center in Suisun City before 3:15 p.m. Monday, get out of his vehicle, take out a child's auto seat then set it down in the parking lot, get back into his auto and drive off, officials said. The infant was rescued by the owners of nearby businesses.
