India on Thursday warned Pakistan against targeting civilians living near the disputed boundary between the two countries.

"DGMO asked Pakistani DGMO to exercise strict control over his troops and instruct them to refrain from any nefarious activities", the statement from the Defense Ministry said.

An army official said the Indian Army is retaliating to the Pakistani aggression in equal measure. The hotline contact was requested by the Indian Army while Pak Army strongly rejected such claims.

Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistani forces had fired on several schools in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir in which more than 200 schoolchildren were trapped.
