Sumitra Mahajan Hopes for a peaceful Monsoon Session

Parliament is expected to witness debates on cow vigilantism, farmers' protests, corruption charges against opposition leaders, Kashmir unrest and India's stand-off with China before the monsoon session ends on August 11.

Meanwhile, the polling for the President election is underway at the Parliament and the various state Assemblies.

He said former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram had already said that the GST roll-out will be raised during the session in view of the fact that the law in its present form was not the law that was originally drafted by the Congress party. He said opposition parties will seek a discussion on the India-China standoff in Dokalam. Apart from this, the Centre will also introduce 16 new bills in both the houses of the Parliament for consideration and passing. Parliament is meeting at a crucial time when the nation has recently adopted the new indirect tax regime of Goods and Services Tax.

The BJP Parliamentary Party Executive will meet on the eve of begining of the monsoon session that will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Sunday said all parties have assured that the monsoon session will proceed without any ruckus or uproar.
