The Pakistan army on Sunday announced to have launched a major operation Rajgal and Shawwal in the Khyber Agency to flush out Daesh militants attempting to take hold there.

Military spokesman Lieutenant General Asif Ghafoor said Islamic State - also known as Daesh - was growing in strength inside Afghanistan, prompting Pakistan to launch an operation in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). He said Pakistan had informed the Afghan authorities and urged them to take similar measures on its side of the border. He said worldwide border with Afghanistan will be fully secured to check infiltration of terrorists and to destroy their hideouts in our side of the border. "This operation was necessary because Daesh is getting stronger there and we have to stop its influence spreading into Pakistan through the Rajgal valley", he said.

In Punjab, the DG ISPR said Punjab Rangers with the support of Counter Terrorism Department had carried out 6 major operations while about 7000 IBOs were undertaken.

Elaborating situation on the Line of Control, Asif Ghafoor said India is committing massive ceasefire violations on LOC to divert world attention from the grave human rights violations and indigenous struggle of Kashmiris in the Occupied Kashmir.

He stated that the army is prepared to respond to any emergency situation with regards to the monsoon floods.

To a question, he said the Army Chief will take a final decision on the appeal of Indian spy Kulbhushan Jhadav at the earliest.

The ISPR chief lamented that the Indian army has the choice of opening fire on civilian areas whereas the Pakistan Army can not do that to Kashmiris across LoC. The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was not the only institution involved in the Raymond Davis affair, he said when asked to comment on the CIA contractor's book wherein he states former ISI chief Lt General Shuja Pasha orchestrated his release from the jail.
