The Ministry of External Affair (MEA) on Friday said that the opposition parties have urged the Indian Government to remain engaged with China through diplomacy.

The opposition and centre are united on the Dolkam border situation with China as both of them agreed that India and China need to pursue diplomatic options to resolve the Doklam standoff even as they backed the action of Indian troops in stalling a Chinese attempt to build a road through Bhutanese territory.

Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress MP Rajamohan Reddy told reporters after the meeting that the government, including Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, assured opposition leaders that the military dispute with China "will be resolved diplomatically and peacefully".

On the standoff between the armies of India and China in the Doka La area, the spokesperson said diplomatic channels would continue to be used for a resolution.

India's government immediately seized on Monday night's atrocity to intensify repression of the mass protests that have convulsed Jammu and Kashmir, the country's only Muslim-majority state, for the past year. "What the Indian government pursues is to use the peace talks as a cover to encroach on China's territory and change its status quo".

"The UN chief, the U.S. president, the Chinese leadership and others have offered to play a role in resolving the Kashmir issue", said the Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria.

It said Indian government didn't desire to negotiate a peaceful settlement on the border issue.

The Congress made it clear that when it comes to national security, all the parties are with the government as national security was the party's priority. He also strongly rejected allegations by Pakistan that India was using chemical weapons in Kashmir.

Zhang said that though China's infrastructure construction in Doklam has been slow, with the completion of the Lhasa-Shigatse Railway, roads in Yadong county and pathways in Nathula, India is anxious that China might gain a strategic edge in the region.

He also raised the issue of the overall internal security situation in the country in the wake of rising incidents of lynchings and vigilantism. The top ministers told the opposition leaders that Doval will be visiting China on July 26-27 and will put forward before Chinese interlocutors India's position, they said.

Geng took issue with Jaishankar's description of the border standoff as a "difference", saying that it is an outright "dispute". Everybody has promised to support the government.

Ramping up the rhetoric against India, Chinese media took to recalling the 1962 India-China war this week, publishing editorials and photographs from five decades ago.
