A joint investigation team that probed the Panamagate graft case against Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family has found "glaring disparities" between their known sources of income and their actual wealth in its final report submitted to the Supreme Court today (July 10), a media report said.

With the Supreme Court now taking up the case once more, Sharif's political career hangs in the balance.

The report consist of the details of grilling sessions with members of Sharif family including the statements of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his brother Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, children Hassan, Hussain and Maryam Nawaz Sharif, son-in-law retired Captain Mohammad Safdar, cousin Tariq Shafi, and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, besides other relevant witnesses.

Sharif, who has previously denied allegations of abusing his authority to enrich himself, has been under pressure since documents leaked in 2016 from a Panama-based law firm disclosed his family had offshore accounts.

According to the 254-page report submitted in the apex court on Monday, Sharif family has failed to produce the money trail of their assets in London and means of income.

Iqbal said the report was based on accusations leveled by Imran and his party and there was nothing new in it.

He said that all responsibility of derailing the democracy will lie on the shoulders of ruling party due to their continual denial of cooperating with JIT and efforts to sabotage the legitimacy of JIT but PTI will completely protect the JIT on every forum.

However, PML-N leaders continue to claim innocence about the involvement of Sharif and his family members.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) can not initiate contempt of court proceedings against an individual as that right lies only with the Supreme Court and the High Courts, said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan. "We hope the Supreme Court bench will send this report into the trash bin ... to where it rightfully belongs", he concluded.
