Shia LaBeouf has been arrested for public drunkenness, obstruction and disorderly conduct in the U.S. city of Savannah, Georgia.

The actor approached a bystander and a police officer asking for a cigarette, according to a statement from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. Police said he began using vulgar language in front of women and children.

The rep also said LaBeouf was "voluntarily receiving treatment for alcohol addiction". He was facing public drunkenness, obstruction and disorderly conduct charges.

Savannah Police and the Chatham County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to a request for additional comments.

During a red carpet premiere in 2014, the internationally recognised LaBeouf wore a brown paper bag on his head that read "I Am Not Famous Anymore".
