Novak Djokovic proved his form for Wimbledon by beating Gael Monfils 6-3 6-4 to win the Aegon International.

The Serb, who will have former players Andre Agassi and Mario Ancic on his Wimbledon coaching team, spent only an hour and a quarter in taming the French second seed.

"I am enjoying undoubtedly this week and the fact that I'm in the finals obviously makes it even better", said the Serbian, who is playing his first Wimbledon warm-up event in seven years.

The three times Wimbledon champion survived two set points, one with Young serving at 5-4 and the other on his own serve in the tiebreak at 5-6, before clinching victory with his fourth match point after the American double-faulted.

Further improvement is likely needed to succeed at SW19 but ahead of his meeting in Saturday's showpiece with Gael Monfils, Djokovic is taking encouragement following a hard 12 months. "This is the kind of match situations that I was looking forward to having, and I'm glad it happened today and I managed to overcome that".
