Man, woman found dead with gunshot wounds on Chicago Skyway

Chicago police were investigating the scene where two people were shot and killed on the Chicago Skyway early Wednesday.

The lanes were reopened by 10:00am. After they drove through the 87th Street toll gate, the woman got out of the vehicle and the man followed her wielding a gun, and shot her. The auto eventually crashed into a wall near the toll plaza.

Pena then got out of his auto while it was still running to chase after Fischer, firing several gunshots at her, police said.

The number of shootings on Chicago-area expressways has climbed from nine in 2012 to 54 a year ago, according to the state police. Nobody else was injured.

The shooting happened around 4:15 a.m. near the 87th Street Toll Plaza, according to police.
