The codename was believed to be given to the successor of the Pixel XL phone, the bigger one of the two.

David Ruddock from Android Police rates the confidence of this rumor with a 9 out of 10, though he reminded us that it's possible there is a Pixel XL successor regardless of muskie's fate. It may have been referred to as the Google Pixel XL 2 if the company had made a decision to release it.

Developer AmirZ on Reddit has successfully created an APK of a port of the Google Pixels launcher. As Googles vision for its self-released smartphone shifted from Nexus to Pixel, along came a new and updated Pixel Launcher, one that would effectively replace the Google Now Launcher until it was discontinued back in March. They believe to be reasonably sure that this handset was meant to be the second-generation Pixel XL.

Athletics - Bolt wins final 100 metres race on home soil

"After two years, we can't guarantee more updates", the statement said, referring to Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones that were launched last year. What this report merely suggests is that it's not going to be the device that Google had previously prepared. There is another Google phone, probably under the Pixel branding itself, called taimen but there isn't much information about the device.

Why, you ask? Because Google is now reported to be proceeding forward with the 5-inch Pixel 2 and a massive, 6-inch device codenamed "Taimen". No exact measurement of the device is available yet so it is hard to know how big it would actually be. It's expected to have a larger display and chassis compared to the Muskie.

The reason behind this decision is not publicly known at this point in time.
